DUMFRIES, Va. (May 14, 2025)—The Rose Gaming Resort, Northern Virginia’s premier gaming destination, has been recognized by the Dumfries Town Council for its contributions to the town as part of Business Appreciation Month 2025.

In its resolution, the Town of Dumfries “extends its heartfelt appreciation to The Rose for investing in our community and for their dedication to being a valued partner in our town’s future,” while noting that the destination gaming resort is “bringing new opportunities for employment, convenience, and community engagement to our town.”

Vice-mayor Monaé Nickerson presented the proclamation on behalf of Town Council to Bobbi Sample, General Manager of The Rose Gaming Resort and Rosie’s Dumfries during the council’s May 6 meeting.

“Our entire team at The Rose and Churchill Downs Incorporated are so proud to call Dumfries our home and are committed to being a vital part of this exciting new chapter in Dumfries’ storied history,” said Sample. “As Northern Virginia’s premier destination for exciting gaming, great food and drink, and luxurious accommodations, we are proud to be creating jobs, generating tax revenue and economic activity, and serving as a valued member of Dumfries’ business community and civic life.”

The Rose Gaming Resort opened its doors in November 2024 with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony featuring state and local leaders, senior leadership from Churchill Downs Incorporated, and excited guests and players from across the region.

Churchill Downs Incorporated invested $460 million in the destination gaming resort which is expected to create 500 jobs and generate $35.5 million in annual tax revenue.

Located just off I-95 in the Town of Dumfries, The Rose Gaming Resort features a 175,000+ SF Gaming Facility with 1,650 historical horse racing terminals, eight bars and restaurants including 1609 Steakhouse, The Playbook Sports Bar and Grill, and the Market Street Foodhall, and more than 100 hotel rooms.

The Rose is also contributing to the revival of Virginia’s thoroughbred horse racing and equine industry. The opening of The Rose has added sixteen days of live racing to Colonial Downs’ 2025 live racing season, helps fund purses to attract worldclass racing talent, and support jobs around the Commonwealth.

The Rose is committed to being a good neighbor and supporting its home community. The Rose has made considerable investments to support the Dumfries and Prince William County communities including more than $2.4 million in monetary, in-kind, and pledged contributions to the town and local nonprofits, as well as adopted strong wage and local hiring commitments.
